Enter by the Narrow Gate
(Matthew 7:13,14) Hear the words of JESUS, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
These are harsh words of reality just like the rest of the chapter. They are spoken by the Lord Jesus Himself and we must pay careful attention to them. Listen to what Jesus told us… the path to life is narrow, it is difficult and few find it. Wow! Many nowadays have been told that the path to life is easy; you just say a simple prayer, continue living your life, and try to do better.
But God’s Word tells us something much different. In the Bible we are commanded to “Repent” of our sins and put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 13:3; Romans 13:14) . It says we must become a new creation, that the old man must be crucified so that we may live in the newness of life (Galatians 2:20). This can only happen by the power of God, not by “good works”.
God, because of His holy, good and righteous nature absolutely cannot give pardon to a person who willfully continues in his sins. His character would be stained and He would become unjust. NO, He provided one way of escape, one narrow gate, one difficult path, and that path is JESUS CHRIST. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
Jesus told people “go and sin no more”, and if we really loved Him we would keep His commandments (John 8:11; John 14:15). But if you hurt someone over and over, you don’t really love them, even if you say you do. We must humble ourselves before God, repent of our offensive lifestyle, and follow Jesus by obeying Him. God will give us a new heart and a new spirit, one that desires to obey Him. We will make mistakes, but that is what grace is for.
So, take the hard road, die to yourself and live for God. Christianity is about sacrifice, not self gratification. Lay your life down so others may find eternal life in Christ Jesus. Follow Jesus, not man. I love you all. Bless you. Your friend, Jonathan Ball
