If God is Love, Why do we Suffer?

If God is Love, Why do we Suffer?
Genesis 2:16, 17
“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
This is probably one of the biggest reasons that people turn away from God, because they do not understand why we suffer. But not understanding is really an excuse, for there are some who have suffered more than we can imagine and yet have put their faith in Jesus, and love Him exceedingly. So truly faith is a choice, whether we understand what’s going on or not.
So, why is it that mankind suffers so much grief, pain and disease? Is it because God is terribly cruel and simply wants us to suffer? Or maybe He could care less what we go through and is upstairs watching us struggle! Perhaps this is one huge game, or… just maybe, there is a logical reason why mankind is enduring the pains of this life. Let’s look at the Scriptures for the answer.
The Bible teaches us that in the beginning God gave us a free will, and warned us not to sin (Genesis 2:16, 17; Deuteronomy 30:19, 20). He also gave us dominion over the earth and all that is in it (Genesis 1:28), but when Adam gave into satan, he delivered that authority to him, as satan said himself, “All this authority I will give to You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours. (Luke 4:6, 7)” God warned that choosing sin would produce death, and it certainly did.
What God has put into motion, He will not alter, nor will He contradict His own word. Therefore Adam and Eve in their own free will chose to break God’s command, and as sin entered the world it unleashed hell on earth. Sin is so destructive that it brought the whole universe spiraling down; the earth became cursed and the heart of man became wicked beyond imagination (Genesis 6:5). Today we have rape, murder, lust, greed, unfaithfulness, adultery, homosexuality, bestiality, pedophilia, blaspheme, abortion, cursing, pride, arrogance, war, hatred, racism, and witchcraft, along with disease, suffering, pain and death; all caused by SIN.
Therefore, the cause of our suffering is not God, but rather the sin that man welcomed into the world. But thank God that He is merciful and has provided a way of escape from our plight! Jesus entered the world as a Man, conquering sin and death on the cross, by dying in our place so we could live. Then He rose from the grave and is alive forever more! Where, oh death is your sting!?? Those who repent and trust in Him will pass from death to live, and be completely cleansed of their sins (John 5:24)! Hallelujah!
First the Lord recreates our hearts (Ezekiel 36:26, 27), then prepares a new body for us (1 Corinthians 15:42- 44), and one day will form a new heavens and a new earth (Revelations 21:1). Oh, I plead with you today, dear reader, will you be there??
Love in Jesus Christ, Jonathan Ball
