World Religions

World Religions

Romans 10:3

“For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.”

If you have ever wondered why there are so many world religions, there is your answer.  The world will not submit to God’s way and therefore goes about trying to establish their own righteousness, which is called “self- righteousness.” That is why there are so many religions, each with some form of “goodness” about them, but each denying the truth that is in Jesus Christ.

The movement today says that we should coexist, and many “Christians” are falling into the philosophy that people from every religion are following Jesus because they are doing good works, believing that although they do not know His name, they are hearing “the voice” that tells them to do good, and in obeying the voice are actually following the Lord. While it is true that God is drawing people out from every religion to Himself, it is not possible to remain in another religion (which teaches false doctrine about Jesus) and say you are following Jesus.

As Romans 10:3 plainly shows us about Israel, we can see that it is exactly what the religions of the world do, being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and therefore not submitting to it, go about trying to be good on their own merit. It has a sense of goodness about it but is really rebellion to God, putting Him aside and saying, “I can do this myself.” But as the prophet Isaiah said, “All our righteousnesses are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6), for if we do not allow God to cleans our hearts from sin then our good deeds are an attempt to bribe the Judge of the universe.

In studying what world religions believe, you will find that each one changes the nature and Deity of Jesus Christ, who Himself declared that He is the way, the truth and the life, and that no man comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). Unless a person submits to Him, no matter how religious they are, they are seeking their own righteousness. For, “whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son” (2 John 9).

It comes down to this: either we trust in the merit of Jesus, accepting that it was His work on the cross that saves us, or in pride we reject His sacrifice and trust in our own good works to save us, which is futile. As the prince of preachers (Charles H. Spurgeon) once said, “Nothing can damn a man but his own righteousness; nothing can save him but the righteousness of Christ.” Please, trust in Jesus today while you live!

Be Gentle to All

Be Gentle to All

Proverbs 18:19

“A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, and contentions are like the bars of a castle.”

If you are a Christian and you share your faith with others, let me give you some advice, which is not really my advice but God’s. Do not purposefully offend others. It is true that God’s Word offends the world, but we are to be gentle to all, able to teach with a humble spirit so people may know that we sincerely love them.

When you offend someone a wall goes up and it no longer matters what you say, it will not get through. You might make perfect sense but because you offended that person, they want nothing to do with you and your words will fall to the ground.

Many have zeal without knowledge, and although they mean well, they lack understanding and do more damage than good. Like Peter in his zeal for Christ, they cut off the ear of the unsaved and make it even harder for them to hear the truth. Only the love of Christ can heal their wounds from an unnecessary offense.

So what am I saying, to at no cost offend others? Certainly not, since the preaching of the cross is an offense to the world, and truth convicts sinners, producing anger. What I am saying is you must speak the truth in love, with a humble spirit, so the person may know that you genuinely care for their soul. So yes, preach the whole truth of God with boldness; by no means compromise the Scriptures, but drench your life of preaching with acts of love, showing that you live the gospel you are proclaiming. Sacrifice often, buy gifts for others, serve the needy, clothe the naked, and love your enemies, praying for those who persecute you; and never quit proclaiming the good news of the cross of Christ!

The Lips of the Righteous

The Lips of the Righteous

Proverbs 10:11

“The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.”

Repeatedly in Proverbs we see the use of antonyms; the foolish and the wise, the righteous and the wicked, the lazy and the diligent, and a mouth that speaks life or death. Just as a spring of water does not bring forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening, so our mouth should not speak blessing and cursing towards others. It is not becoming of a righteous person to speak wickedly, for it defiles his nature and stains his character.

You can learn a lot about a person by what comes out of their mouth, for Jesus Himself said to the Pharisees, “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matthew 12:34)” Now no man can tame the tongue completely (James 3:8), for we all stumble in word sometimes, but what a person talks about most is what is stored up in their heart. If a person loves the world and the lusts of it, they will talk most about that, and will do it with enthusiasm. But if a person is converted and now loves Jesus Christ, filling themselves with His word, then out of their mouth will come life. It will be a joy to speak of the things of God.

So let us be filled richly with God’s word so we can be a well of life to others. Let your mouth be used to bring people to Jesus, to disperse truth on the earth and to declare the praises of the living God. Let your life be like a well, causing people to come to you, drawing truth and life from your lips. May they find strength as you speak of His promises, proclaiming hope in a lost and dying world. Just as water gives life to the body, let your words bring light and counsel to others, filling them with wisdom from heaven.

Sex, Porn, and the Darkness of Sin

Sex, Porn, and the Darkness of Sin

Genesis 6:5

“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Truly sin knows no bounds. It is so evil that it will take a person down paths they never thought capable. Sin lies deep in the heart of human nature and is so dark that most of the world cannot accept it, choosing rather to believe the lie that we are good. Of the many hundreds of people that I have asked, “do you consider yourself a good person?” almost everyone has answered, “yes”; so let us look at some facts.

In the United States alone there is an estimated 100,000 children being trafficked for sex a year (FBI estimates 300,000), at the average age of 12- 14 years old; that is not including adult slavery. The average amount these children are forced to have sex each day is 34 times, meaning that there are 3,400,000 customers per day in the US who pay to sleep with children. The US population is 323,700,700 and counting, which means that an estimated 1 out of every 95 people (or 1 out of 31 if FBI is right) around you are paying to sleep with a child each day. In the US alone, sex trafficking produces 9.5 billion dollars a year in revenues. That’s a lot of money.

Let’s move on to pornography. In the US, pornography grosses 13 billion per year and is viewed by 87% percent of all young males (9 out of 10), and 31% of young woman (1 out of 3). That means that almost every young man you see looks at pornography. Porn sights get more visitors per month than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined. That is a huge amount! According to a Google trends analysis, 1/3rd of all daily searches for pornographic websites are for “teen porn”; about 500,000 searches a day. Out of 304 videos analyzed, 88.2% contained physical aggression; this means that much of the world is interested in aggressive underage sex. Stats show that those who watch violent X rated videos are 6 times more likely to force others into sexual acts. Experts also say that pornography leads to a rise in STD’s and abortion.

Child porn is rapidly increasing in popularity and becoming more gruesome, bringing in 3 billion per year in the US, while even searches for bestiality produce 2.7 million in revenues. Bestiality is sex with animals.

Last we will examine the topic of abortion. In short, abortion is the murder of an unborn child who would have otherwise lived, just as you are now living. If you were aborted, you would not be reading this, but thank God your mother gave birth to you. Studies have shown that babies (“fetuses”) have feelings and sensation, and are sensitive to touch. They dream, they suck their thumb, and during an abortion their heart beat increases as they silently scream and attempt to escape the tools used to abort them. It has been discovered that babies from 20- 40 weeks have “heightened” sensitivity to pain, so yes, abortion hurts them, you just don’t hear it (so it must be ok right??)

During an abortion from 1- 12 weeks, a vacuum is placed into the woman and is violently moved around until it tears the baby’s limbs apart and sucks it down the tube. During a partial birth abortion, the baby is pulled out by his feet, but the head is left in the womb; then scissors are jammed in the back of his skull, opening a hole for the vacuum that is used to literally suck out his brain. The limp body is then pulled out and discarded. As of now there have been over 56 million children murdered on American soil. That is far more than were murdered in the Holocaust, yet the world says, “It’s our right!” No one has the right to murder.

Therefore, these are just a few of many facts to make you think and decide for yourself. Hopefully you will be honest and realize that hidden in the heart of man is murder, rape, pedophilia, and a craving for sin of some sort or another. Men are full of dark secrets on the inside, while putting on a front for the world. Understand that God knows every secret sin of your heart: every lie, every deceit, every gossip, all greed, malice, selfishness, hatred, sinful imagination, and evil desire for things too wicked to mention, and He will judge every one of them on the Day of judgment (Romans 2:16). And yes, He should. God is angry with the wicked every day, and will punish forever those who persist in ungodliness (Psalms 7:11; Revelations 21:8).

But there is hope! God is also rich in mercy, and has provided one way of escape for you, to save you from His wrath. Jesus came from heaven and became a Man, lived a perfect life and then was crucified for your sins. Then Jesus rose from the dead, never to die again. God punished His own Son instead of you, so that you could be forgiven, completely washed clean of all sin, even hidden sin. But God also offers to clothe you in the righteousness of His Son, and by His power change your very nature, making you a child of God (John 1:12, 13). He can give you eternal life today if you will put your trust in Him. I plead with all who read this, if you have not, please repent of the sin in your own life and believe the gospel message. You can pass from death to life in a moment if you will surrender all to Jesus; for He loved you and gave His life for you.

With love for your soul, Jonathan Ball
