Treasures by a Lying Tongue

Proverbs 21: 6

“The acquisition of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor, the pursuit of death.”

It is tax season, and most Americans are hoping to get their biggest refund ever; but at what cost? Many people will not rob a bank, but they will lie on their taxes so they can get a bigger refund. That is called stealing, and lying. Liars, thieves and those who are covetous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Their future ends in eternal death.

What will a man give in exchange for his soul? A few hundred dollars? A boot- legged movie instead of paying $20? Humans will work every angle to benefit themselves, but at what cost? At the cost of their eternal soul. The money will soon fly away, the refund will be spent, the movie will grow old, but you will stand before God and be judged in righteousness. If you are found guilty, you will end up in hell, and that is horrific. Rather, let us all seek the Lord in truth. Abandon lying, cheating, scamming and stealing, and set your eyes on Christ, the One who died for you and rose again.

Don’t Play with Fire!

Proverbs 6:27, 28

“Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?”

We cannot play with sin and think that there will be no consequence. It’s just crazy thinking. One cannot play with fire or they will be burned, and you cannot love evil, and embrace it, without it destroying your life here on earth, and sending you to the eternal flame! Is that worth it?

To consider the potency of sin, think of creation. In 6 days, God made an entire universe, beautiful and perfect. Everything functioned the way it was supposed to, all the systems, molecules, laws and creatures operated with complete perfection, so that it all would have lasted forever. Yet man had a free will, and with that will he chose to rebel against a holy God. The day man disobeyed God, death entered into the world. Everything in the entire universe was affected and started to spiral down, wear out, fall apart and perish. Natural disasters, distresses and catastrophic events plagued the universe. Our molecular structure was tainted, children started to be born deformed, diseases attacked our bodies, and every human became separated from God, causing man to do all sorts of atrocities to one another, as we see this day.

There is an ultimate Day where God will judge the world for sin, and those who practice sin will be “burned” (Revelations 21:8,9). Christ Jesus already paid the price for our sin so we can be redeemed, so abandon sin and run to Him for mercy. He will make all things new one day, and those who love Him will be with Him forever.

Condoning Sin

Condoning Sin

Acts 22:20

“And when the blood of Your witness Stephen was being shed, I also was standing by approving, and watching out for the coats of those who were slaying him.”

As the Churches of the world fall by the wayside and more and more cave into the pressures of this world, compromising truth to please the masses, there is a line in the sand that is being scrubbed out. With this line removed, the floodgates of compromise have been released and every evil thing is gushing out, all in the name of love.

As the word “love” get’s thrown around and sang a million times in each contemporary song, remember that the greatest command is not to love man, but to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength (Mark 12:29). If we love God we will keep His commandments (John 14:15). If we say we are loving people but are opposing God’s word, we are neither loving God nor man (1 John 2:4).

The line that has almost been washed away by our ever-darkening world is the distinction between a Christian showing love to a sinner and a Christian condoning the sin of a person in the name of love. God never condones sin, ever in all of Scripture, but rather declares His judgment upon it and those who practice it (Ezekiel 18:20; Revelations 21:7,8). He commands His people to hate what is evil and cling to what is good (Romans 12:9).

The common example in the US is that of the Christian baker who was friends with some homosexual customers, but when asked to bake a cake to celebrate their homosexual wedding, he declined. That being said, he was taken to court and lost his business. Now many Christians, Church leaders and Pastors have asked themselves, “would I bake the cake?” And it seems today that many have said, “yes, to show love to the couple.”

Now this in a sense sounds kind and loving, but I want to ask you: where does the line stop? If a known sex trafficker were to ask you to fix his vehicle that you knew was used to transport sex slaves, would you fix it in the name of love? Of course not, I hope! I would actually pull some parts out of his engine and call the police, in the name of love for those poor slaves.

How about making a cake to celebrate a recent abortion or a wedding between a pedophile and a 12 year old? Of course a Christian would never condone such wicked things because it would be promoting actions that God despises; things that we all know are wrong. By doing so we would be guilty of condoning sin. Things are excepted today that used to be appalling; and mark my words, there will be no end to the wicked things that will be condoned in the future.

When we look at the Apostle Paul’s confession, he expresses his guilt in the fact that he was “standing by approving” of those who were stoning Stephen. Paul’s hand was holding no stone, but he was supporting those who were. In doing so, he was guilty of murder.

When we look at Romans 1:32, people were condemned not only for practicing sins worthy of death, but also for giving hearty approval of those who practiced them. Even when Paul saw the Apostle Peter acting as a hypocrite, he did not condone it but rebuked him to his face, because he loved God, loved Peter, and those effected by Peters sin.

So how are followers of Christ supposed to treat people that are still practicing a life of sin? Our prime example is the Master Himself, Jesus Christ. In John 4 Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well. Now keep in mind that Jesus loved this woman so much that He was going to die for her sins soon after they met. Jesus starts by breaking cultural rules in befriending the woman, as Jews had no dealings with Samaritans. She is surprised by this and then Jesus starts speaking to her about spiritual things, intriguing her even more. After offering her living water, He then does something that most professing Christians will not do today; He confronted her sin. Before she could have this living water, she had to be convicted of her fornication.

Today, we would call this judgmental and awkward, but Jesus knew what was needed for her to find life. And behold, she believed! He revealed Himself as the Messiah and she was radically saved; not only she, but also the whole town through her witness! Hallelujah!

Today I plead with any and all who live for Jesus: please follow in His footsteps! If you have misunderstood love by condoning sin, please turn from doing that and follow the way of the Master. He is so much wiser than we. By all means, love sinners; feed them, clothe them, befriend them, share the gospel with them, and remember that you yourself once lived the same way, but by no mean do anything that would promote their sin. Don’t put a rainbow flag on your Church in the name of love, but do love homosexuals. Don’t pay for a drug addicts next fix, but do pray for him and give him a sandwich.  And above all, share the everlasting gospel with them, which is able to give them life forever more! That is love!

Do You Know Him??

Do You Know Him??

Psalms 146:1, 2

“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.”

When you hear the name Jesus, how does it make you feel? Does it bring no joy to your heart whatsoever, or does it flood your soul with gratitude because He, the King of glory has saved you from your sins? Tonight I urge you to examine your own heart to see where you stand with God.

Now, we are not discussing religion this evening, for there are tens of millions of pious believers on the earth today, strictly following the rules of their gods, but they do not have eternal life. No, tonight we are talking about, “DO YOU KNOW GOD?!” Jesus Christ proclaimed that, “this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent (John 17:3).”

Jehovah does simply want us to follow a bunch of rules, but wants to have fellowship with us, and to give us the life that is in Him! He wants to become one with us in spirit and dwell with a holy people for all eternity. Every good gift has come from Him; oh, do you love Him tonight? Does His presence mean anything to you? Do songs of praise rise up in your heart when you meditate on His great mercy toward such sinners?

I inquire of you this evening to examine your own heart, and consider if you see any of these evidences in your own life to confirm that you know the Lord of glory. One of the greatest signs of a believer should be a humble gratitude towards Jesus Christ because they have realized the depth of their own wretchedness, and in turn have seen the abundance of grace that Jesus has given them at the cross. Anyone who can take the topic of Jesus as a light thing should strongly consider why. Your attitude towards the One who gave His life for you should be the same as it would towards someone who pushed you out of the way of a bus, losing their own life to save yours. You would not feel “whatever” towards that person.

Do you have a deep love for the brethren and desire to fellowship with those of kindred spirit, or would you rather mingle with the world? For “we know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren (1 John 3:14)”. When you hear of His wonders at work in the earth, like Muslims being converted through visions of Jesus, does your heart rejoice? Are you brought to tears at the testimony of His faithful martyrs? When you hear a Spirit filled message from a man of God does it hit your soul like a ton of bricks? Does the message resound within you for weeks to come, God’s words working in you to transform you into the image of His dear Son? Do any of these experiences ring true in your ears?

Does it wrench your spirit when you hear others blaspheming and using as an expression of disgust the one name that is above every name, the name of Jesus? Does your heart delight in God’s commandments, or are they a burden to hear? Can you relate to the Psalmist as he cries out, “Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day (Psalms 119:97)”, or is it foreign to consider? Does your heart now love holiness and hate wickedness; has your relationship with the world, the devil and the flesh changed?? Do you grieve when you sin and hunger to be more like Jesus?

For if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, old things have passed away and behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17)!! Do you know the Savior today? Can you say Christ is mine and I am His? If not, fall on your knees tonight and do not rise until you know He has saved you. He is waiting for you to turn to Him now!

Despised

Despised

Isaiah 53:3

“He was despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.”

Being despised is a horrible thing. It is not to simply be disliked by someone, but absolutely abhorred by them, that person or persons feeling deep repugnance towards you; they hate, detest, loathe and abhor you. This is a position that none of us, I suppose, want another to feel towards us. Yet, when the Creator of this world took on flesh and dwelt among us, we, His creation, despised Him. How much did sinful man hate their Creator? Just look at the cross.

God in His wisdom is so profound! He came into the world and did everything completely backwards from the way the world operates. The world says to have the very best, to pursue riches and fame, so Jesus was literally born in a barn; the world says to be full of pride in our own greatness, but Jesus came in humility, coming from Nazareth and working as a carpenter; the world says you must be successful, but Jesus chose fishermen, tax collectors and prostitutes to be His disciples. Jesus was totally despised by the religious leaders of that day, who constantly tried to trip Him in His words, plotting to kill Him 10 times in the gospels. In the end, they nailed Him to a tree. This depravity is at the core of every human heart, and must be crucified itself so we can be made new.

Jesus willfully endured the very thing that we all fear: rejection. As the world is seeking honor and acceptance from one another, Jesus chose the path that would lead Him to be rejected. While millions around the world strive at any cost to be men pleasers, Jesus chose to be detested by men so He could please the Father. Jesus came to His own, but His own did not receive Him (John 1:10, 11), but on the contrary, we hid our faces from Him and esteemed Him not. In His unfathomable love He endured it all; for our sake, and for the sake of His great name.

The love of God is past description, past words, and without condition. The depths that the Almighty went to so He could redeem sinful humanity are mind blowing; but most of the world doesn’t give it a second thought. We will give hours of devotion to created things, to smart phones and TV screens, to money making and beautiful cars, to chasing girls and admiring our own wonderfulness, but never give an hour’s thought over the blood that was shed on Calvary. What a crime; what a great felony against the Judge of the Universe. Let us fall on our knees today and repent of our vanity, giving God the affection due Him. His love awaits all those who receive Him with a humble heart.

In love, Jonathan Ball

John 1:11, 12 “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name”

Idolatry

Idolatry

2 Timothy 4:2- 4

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

Paul’s exhortation to Timothy was straight forward: Preach the word! Why? Because the days were coming, and today are here when people will not listen to sound doctrine. Today you can present plain Scripture to professing Christians and they will turn away their ear, instead listening to more pleasing views of God, contrary to the word. They form a god to suit themselves, a god who is ok with witchcraft and sexual immorality (Revelations 21:8), who will not judge in righteousness (Acts 17:31), who does not command us to repent (Acts 17:30), who is indifferent to wickedness (Isaiah 5:20), and who created heaven without hell (Matthew 18:8, 9). This is what the Israelites did in the wilderness, and is called idolatry. Idolaters will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

Paul might of told Timothy to “convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and doctrine”, but if you practice this today people will say, “don’t judge me!”, and, “Jesus said to love”, completely ignoring portions of God’s word for the sake of their agenda. They claim their actions are based on love, but part of the definition of love is, “does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth” (1 Corinthians 13:6); yet they rejoice in iniquity and hate the truth, defending evil and shunning any Scripture that opposes their carnal view.

Paul told Timothy, “but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers”, and so they do, gravitating to teachers who tell them love would never correct or make us uncomfortable, who do not teach of repentance, sin, hell or judgment, but only grace, mercy and love. Yet, the Great Master Himself, because of His love, mercy and grace taught us about sin, righteousness and judgment, which things the Holy Spirit also came to convict the world of (John 16:8).

If we love God we must follow the footsteps of Jesus in His teaching, actions and words; but many feel wiser than God and chose to do it a “better” way than He. Turning their ears away from the truth, they turn aside to fables, choosing to believe the idolatrous view of Jesus, which path leads to destruction. Please, for any who will listen today: seek the Living God! Read the word and believe it, not twisting it for your own advantage. Fear God and depart from evil, and Christ will give you life! Do not let anything keep you from the truth, but submit your heart entirely to the LORD and His ways, and He will be with you (John 14:21).

Sex, Porn, and the Darkness of Sin

Sex, Porn, and the Darkness of Sin

Genesis 6:5

“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

Truly sin knows no bounds. It is so evil that it will take a person down paths they never thought capable. Sin lies deep in the heart of human nature and is so dark that most of the world cannot accept it, choosing rather to believe the lie that we are good. Of the many hundreds of people that I have asked, “do you consider yourself a good person?” almost everyone has answered, “yes”; so let us look at some facts.

In the United States alone there is an estimated 100,000 children being trafficked for sex a year (FBI estimates 300,000), at the average age of 12- 14 years old; that is not including adult slavery. The average amount these children are forced to have sex each day is 34 times, meaning that there are 3,400,000 customers per day in the US who pay to sleep with children. The US population is 323,700,700 and counting, which means that an estimated 1 out of every 95 people (or 1 out of 31 if FBI is right) around you are paying to sleep with a child each day. In the US alone, sex trafficking produces 9.5 billion dollars a year in revenues. That’s a lot of money.

Let’s move on to pornography. In the US, pornography grosses 13 billion per year and is viewed by 87% percent of all young males (9 out of 10), and 31% of young woman (1 out of 3). That means that almost every young man you see looks at pornography. Porn sights get more visitors per month than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined. That is a huge amount! According to a Google trends analysis, 1/3rd of all daily searches for pornographic websites are for “teen porn”; about 500,000 searches a day. Out of 304 videos analyzed, 88.2% contained physical aggression; this means that much of the world is interested in aggressive underage sex. Stats show that those who watch violent X rated videos are 6 times more likely to force others into sexual acts. Experts also say that pornography leads to a rise in STD’s and abortion.

Child porn is rapidly increasing in popularity and becoming more gruesome, bringing in 3 billion per year in the US, while even searches for bestiality produce 2.7 million in revenues. Bestiality is sex with animals.

Last we will examine the topic of abortion. In short, abortion is the murder of an unborn child who would have otherwise lived, just as you are now living. If you were aborted, you would not be reading this, but thank God your mother gave birth to you. Studies have shown that babies (“fetuses”) have feelings and sensation, and are sensitive to touch. They dream, they suck their thumb, and during an abortion their heart beat increases as they silently scream and attempt to escape the tools used to abort them. It has been discovered that babies from 20- 40 weeks have “heightened” sensitivity to pain, so yes, abortion hurts them, you just don’t hear it (so it must be ok right??)

During an abortion from 1- 12 weeks, a vacuum is placed into the woman and is violently moved around until it tears the baby’s limbs apart and sucks it down the tube. During a partial birth abortion, the baby is pulled out by his feet, but the head is left in the womb; then scissors are jammed in the back of his skull, opening a hole for the vacuum that is used to literally suck out his brain. The limp body is then pulled out and discarded. As of now there have been over 56 million children murdered on American soil. That is far more than were murdered in the Holocaust, yet the world says, “It’s our right!” No one has the right to murder.

Therefore, these are just a few of many facts to make you think and decide for yourself. Hopefully you will be honest and realize that hidden in the heart of man is murder, rape, pedophilia, and a craving for sin of some sort or another. Men are full of dark secrets on the inside, while putting on a front for the world. Understand that God knows every secret sin of your heart: every lie, every deceit, every gossip, all greed, malice, selfishness, hatred, sinful imagination, and evil desire for things too wicked to mention, and He will judge every one of them on the Day of judgment (Romans 2:16). And yes, He should. God is angry with the wicked every day, and will punish forever those who persist in ungodliness (Psalms 7:11; Revelations 21:8).

But there is hope! God is also rich in mercy, and has provided one way of escape for you, to save you from His wrath. Jesus came from heaven and became a Man, lived a perfect life and then was crucified for your sins. Then Jesus rose from the dead, never to die again. God punished His own Son instead of you, so that you could be forgiven, completely washed clean of all sin, even hidden sin. But God also offers to clothe you in the righteousness of His Son, and by His power change your very nature, making you a child of God (John 1:12, 13). He can give you eternal life today if you will put your trust in Him. I plead with all who read this, if you have not, please repent of the sin in your own life and believe the gospel message. You can pass from death to life in a moment if you will surrender all to Jesus; for He loved you and gave His life for you.

With love for your soul, Jonathan Ball
